Specimen Number14-3-020Alternate NumberSW-16CommentsSample collected by Daven Mashburn. Three samples in this suite comprise a Troctolite PGE interval: samples 14-3-020, 14-3-016, and 14-3-005. Estimated grades run 14.7 g/t Pt+Pd (Pt:Pd = 3.5) and 0.15% Cu+Ni over a strike length of 657 m, and a true thickness of 1.9 m. High grade runs to 22.3 g/t Pt+Pd for 5.5 km with a true thickness of 2.1m. Chromite is also common in this interval. This interval overlies the Mixed Zone. Olivine is typically serpentinized, the bronzite is typically coarse-grained and contains bronzite and olivine inclusions that are not optically continuous with the large host crystal. In Teaching CollectionNoMineral(s)bronziteolivineplagioclaseRock NamegabbroDistrictStillwaterMineStillwaterExternal LinkMindatGeo-LocationundefinedSub-LocationundefinedDeposit TypeLayered mafic intrusionGeo-Coords[1] Reference MaterialACL-171: Gold, D.P., and Mueller, P., eds., 1979, Field Trip Guide to the Stillwater Layered Intrusive Complex, Montana; U.S. Nat'l.
