Specimen Number4-8-002Alternate NumberM-2CommentsArgillized quartz monzonite porphyry. This represents marginal argillic alteration near the interface with phyllic alteration. Plagioclase is replaced by kaolinite and sericite, and crosscutting veinlets contain quartz + sericite with centerlines and disseminations of pyrite. Chalcopyrite occurs in trace amounts, with chalcocite coatings on pyrite accounting for the approximately 0.2% Cu grade. Mo is trace only. Overall light yellow limonite staining suggests unit is near contact with overlying oxidized zone. Minor jarosite present also. Argillization is pervasive, as well as sercite and minor K-spar. Relict igneous texture preserved. In Teaching CollectionNoMineral(s)chalcopyritefeldsparkaolinitequartzRock Namequartz monzoniteDistrictCopper MountainMineMorenciExternal LinkMindatGeo-Location4900 level benchSub-LocationSouthwest corner of the pitDeposit TypePorphyry CopperGeo-Coords[1] Reference MaterialACL-173: Anzalone, S.A., Beane, R.E., Davis, S.R., Graybeal, F.T., Guilbert, J.M., Oakley, C.A., Titley, S.R., and West, R.M., org., 1979, Society of Economic Geology Field Conference on Tucson-Area Porphyry Copper Deposits, Tucson, AZ, May 3-6, 1979, 205 p.
