Specimen Number4-8-010Alternate NumberM-10CommentsPhyllically altered granite porphyry. Alteration is pervasive, characterized by quartz+sericite+pyrite. Relict texture manifested by quartz eyes persists. Disseminated pyrite now chalcocite-coated. A few thin quartz-pyrite veinlets can be seen, as well as silicification around the veinlets. Nice example of supergene enrichment via chalcocite on pyrite. Grade here 0.8% Cu and 0.02% Mo.In Teaching CollectionNoMineral(s)chalcocitepyritequartzsericiteRock NamegraniteDistrictCopper MountainMineMorenciExternal LinkMindatGeo-LocationNortheast side of pitSub-Locationnear Chase Creek faultDeposit TypePorphyry CopperGeo-Coords[1] Reference MaterialACL-173: Anzalone, S.A., Beane, R.E., Davis, S.R., Graybeal, F.T., Guilbert, J.M., Oakley, C.A., Titley, S.R., and West, R.M., org., 1979, Society of Economic Geology Field Conference on Tucson-Area Porphyry Copper Deposits, Tucson, AZ, May 3-6, 1979, 205 p.
