Specimen NumberTC-1-3-004Alternate NumberSM-5 CommentsOracle porphyritic quartz monzonite. Classic phyllic alteration from within ore zone. Grades typically run 0.6-0.7% Cu with Mo to 0.03%. Both K-spar and plagioclase are completely replaced by sericite, some of which has a greenish cast. Biotite, chloritized in alteration assemblages outward from here, is here both chloritized and sericitized. Quartz + pyrite + chalcopyrite + trace molybdenite veinlets common, and sulfides are also disseminated, especially in former feldspar sites. Quartz is no longer bluish as seen further outward, and now typically is splotchy red. Overall unit is pervasively altered. In Teaching CollectionYesMineral(s)chalcopyritefeldsparquartzsericiteRock NameCu oreDistrictSan ManuelMineSan ManuelExternal LinkMindatDeposit TypePorphyry CopperReference MaterialACL-110: Mine staff San Manuel Division, 1963, Magma Copper Company San Manuel Division General Information Booklet, internal company report, 21 p.
